Wandering through the Natura 2000 Network

The LIPU, managing institution of the Saltflats of Priolo Nature Reserve, in collaboration with the Culture department of the town council of Priolo Gargallo, came up with the project “A spasso per la rete Natura 2000” – Wandering through the Natura 2000 network, which sees as its main objective the highlighting of the historical and naturalistic heritage of the Natura 2000 site “Saltflats of Priolo” through guided tours, environmental education and the drawing up of a calendar of events coordinated by the two institutions.

The aim of the project is to connect the natural and archaeological beauties of the areas closely linked to the Priolo Saltflats: the Magnisi Peninsula with its steppe habitat and rich history and the monument di Marcello, which lie within the Natura 2000 site no. ITA090013.

In this way, the project aims to reach goals such as the promotion of cultural services; improving the intergenerational relationship through the sharing of spaces and cultural experiences tied to the area; improving the cultural, informative and educational opportunities for the people, which are essential for guidance in making everyday choices; promoting forms of art and culture in nature with special attention to new languages and forms of expression used by young people; highlighting the archaeological and naturalistic heritage of the Natura 2000 “Saltflats of Priolo” site through the creation of a circuit which guarantees further means of familiarisation and learning; etc.

The project proposes a series of activities which highlight the historical/naturalistic  heritage, including organising guided tours and themed events which take place within the Natura 2000 site ITA090013 “Saltflats of Priolo”.

The guided tours can be booked every day (excluding Mondays) and on holidays (excluding Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and Easter) from 10:00 to 18:00 from May to September and from 9:00 to 17:00 from October to April, by filling in the form found on the dedicated page.
